|Description:||Advanced robotic systems are required to perform quick reactions in response to visually perceived movements in a partially structured environment. Hence, they are a good benchmark where testing new control algorithms and new estimation/prediction processes. The robotic ball catching problem might be seen as a challenging scenario for experimental testing of the above capabilities.
Smart sensing, object tracking and motion prediction, on-line trajectory planning and motion coordination are crucial skills required in a robotic system in order to successfully catch a thrown ball.
In this lab tour a new 3D robotic ball catching algorithm which employs only an eye-in-hand monocular visual-system is presented.
